MESSAGE BY AMB. MICHAEL K. MUBEA, EBS ON DECEMBER 12, 2020 JAMHURI DAY
Fellow Kenyans in Ireland,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great privilege and honour to join you today in celebrating Jamhuri Day. Please accept my warmest goodwill greetings.
On the 12th day of December 1963, the people of Kenya witnessed the birth of an Independent nation. This was a culmination of decades of the struggle for independence by the Kenyan People who sacrificed their lives to fight for freedom which we enjoy today.
I note that there is no country without a history and there is no history without heroes. History is not just about the past but our history is a torch that blazes a trail into the future as well. We remember and reflect on the heroes and heroines that define our nationhood, both past and present.
The year 2020 has been challenging as the world was confronted by a pandemic not witnessed in modern history. Great men and women have sacrificed their lives to assist the affected and save lives. We remember our medical workers who have given their all and some unfortunately have lost their lives in the course of duty. They are our Covid- 19 heroes whose memory will forever be engraved in our hearts. These brave souls paid the ultimate price.
I celebrate the Kenyans in Ireland who have remained steadfast despite the economic challenges occasioned by the pandemic to extend support back home. Your contribution in Ireland has amplified the image of Kenya in this country and promoted our cultural diplomacy in this beautiful country. In this respect, you are our true heroes! The government remains fully committed to supporting Kenyans in the Diaspora.
H.E President, Uhuru Kenyatta has called us to ‘embrace the challenges of our times with courage and fortitude and to seize the Constitutional moment to redefine our future and our shared prosperity’. This is a call to our national unity and shared history, and purpose of a nation to bequeath to our children a nation that is prosperous.
In conclusion, I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Jamhuri Day, a very Merry Christmas and most prosperous New Year!
Thank you! God bless you and God bless Kenya!
