The White House is pleased to announce that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto of the Republic of Kenya for a State Visit to the United States on May 23, 2024. This visit holds special significance as it commemorates the 60th anniversary of U.S.-Kenya diplomatic relations, highlighting a robust partnership that has consistently delivered for the citizens of both nations.
The upcoming visit is set to reinforce our shared commitment to advancing peace and security, expanding economic ties, and standing together in defense of democratic values. Discussions between the leaders will encompass various areas, including people-to-people ties, trade and investment, technological innovation, climate and clean energy, health, and security.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the importance of this visit, stating, “It will strengthen our shared commitment to advance peace and security, expand our economic ties, and stand together in defense of democratic values. The leaders will discuss ways to bolster our cooperation in areas including people-to-people ties, trade and investment, technological innovation, climate and clean energy, health, and security.”
In addition to bilateral discussions, the visit will affirm the strategic partnership between the United States and Kenya, aligning with the vision set forth at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, where African leadership is recognized as essential in addressing global priorities.
Beyond diplomatic matters, the White House has confirmed that both President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto will be honored with a dinner, underscoring the warm and enduring relationship between the two nations.
The announcement of President Ruto’s visit follows recent developments involving Haiti and Kenya, as both countries work towards a formal agreement to deploy Kenyan police forces to Haiti. High-ranking officials from both nations have collaborated in drafting a memorandum of understanding, setting a deadline for the arrival of Kenyan forces in Haiti.
The White House looks forward to welcoming President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto, fostering continued collaboration, and celebrating the six-decade-long diplomatic ties between the United States and the Republic of Kenya.
