Alliance High School Closed After Fire Breaks Out in Mattress Store

A fire at Alliance High School in Kikuyu on Thursday morning led to the temporary closure of the school, with ten male students taken into police custody as investigations continue.
The fire broke out in one of the school’s mattress stores, disrupting normal learning activities and prompting immediate safety measures. According to Board of Management chairperson Sam Ncheeri, the students are assisting police with investigations by recording statements. He said parents would be formally informed as inquiries proceed.
School officials confirmed that all students were safe and accounted for despite the damage caused by the fire. In a letter to parents and guardians, the Principal described the incident as serious but assured families that there was no immediate danger to students.
The letter instructed parents to collect their children from the school and attend a meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday. At the time of reporting, the meeting was still underway, with school administrators outlining the next steps.
Following consultations, the school directed parents to take their sons home for the weekend. The Principal said the decision would allow students to spend time with their families while the school conducts internal reviews and prepares to resume normal operations.
“We wish to reassure all parents that there is no cause for alarm. The students remain calm, safe, and under the care and supervision of the school,” the statement said.
The closure comes days after Moi Forces Senior School Lanet also announced its closure. Authorities are continuing investigations into the Alliance High School fire, while the school carries out its own review of the incident.
