Raila opens up on having a ‘nusu mkate’ govt with Uhuru
Raila Odinga has said he is not interested in sharing power with President Uhuru Kenyatta – The NASA presidential candidate said he was ready to compete with Uhuru for the top seat in the October 17 election NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has denied claims that he is interested in a ‘nusu mkate'(coalition) government with President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Opposition leader also said he has no plans to boycott the October 17 presidential election. Raila has been accused time and again by both Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto of scheming to share power with them.
But Raila told KTN TV during an interview on Tuesday, September 12 that such claims were unfounded and that he was interested in a duel between him and Uhuru in October. Asked if he was looking for a political settlement in the ongoing impasse, he said: “That’s what Jubilee would want to make people believe, Nusu Mkate(coalition government). We are sure we can win this election if it is fair,” he said.
He also denied saying he would boycott the election until certain conditions are met by the IEBC. “We have not said we will boycott elections, that is media framing. We are saying there will be no elections if our demands are not met. For there to be elections, there has to be parties to contest. Jubilee candidate can go ahead and be declared the winner unopposed,” he added. Asked if he would go to the street in case he misses to participate in the poll, Raila said he shall “cross the bridge when we get there”
The NASA presidential candidate has demanded the resignation of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and a host of other commissioners claiming they bungled the annulled August 8 presidential election. At the same time, the NASA leader said Uhuru should not boast of having a comfortable majority in Parliament as many petitions have been filed against Jubilee MPs. He also dismissed threats by Uhuru that Jubilee MPs will easily impeach him should he become president after the October 16 repeat Election.
