Pain as Fourth Medical Doctor Succumbs to Covid-19 in One Week
The deadly effects of covid-19 pandemic within the medical fraternity continue in frantic fashion as the fourth doctor succumbs to the virus in less than 1 week.
On Friday morning, Kenya lost Dr. Emara Ashraf, a plastic surgeon based Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
Dr. Emara Ashraf passed on a Nakuru hospital where he ahd been admitted after he contracted the virus.
He becomes the fourth specialist to die of coronavirus this week alone.
Others include Dr. Robert Ayisi, Dr. Hudson Inyangala and Dr. Vladimir Schuckin.
Dr. Emara Ashraf’s death has sent shockwaves within the medical fraternity even as colleagues pay glowing tribute to the fallen surgeon.
A shattered Dr. Lukoye Atwoli, a dean at Aga Khan University Medical College wrote on facebook; “What a time! Another brilliant mind gone! Fare thee well, doc! My heart goes out to the family, and to the fraternity that is suffering hits from all sides,”
Taking to twitter, Dr. Thuranira Kaugiria said; “Doctors are paying the ultimate price in this COVID-19 era. We have lost Dr Emara Ashraf. A plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the MTRH. Great surgeon. Great teacher. Great mentor. Daktari, be at peace.”
“We deeply mourn our dear friend and partner Dr. Ashraf Emarah. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife and children, friends, colleagues, the #cleft patients he touched during his lifetime journey of smiles the and surgeons he trained who carry on his legacy.”
Immediately after news of his passing hit social media, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), they issued rallying call to their members to steer away from working in harmful environment.
