Veteran Journalist Mambo Mbotela Appeals Ksh1.1M to Offset Medical Bill
Veteran radio and TV presenter Leonard Mambo Mbotela is appealing to well-wishers to help him raise funds to offset hospital bill of Ksh1.1 million.
The veteran journalist has been receiving treatment at the The Nairobi South Hospital.
In a letter dated Thursday, November 12, 2020, the hospital’s Human Resource Manager, Stephen Mutavi, stated that Mbotela had been admitted at the facility on October 29, 2020.
Mutavi further indicated that the ‘je huu ni ugwana’ show host is due for discharged but can’t be allowed to go home until he clears the medical bills that have accumulated to Ksh1,105,498.
“He is due for discharge Friday November 13, 2020 as per the doctor’s recommendations to continue with homecare treatment.”
“The medical bills have accumulated to Ksh.1,105,498.78 as of today and have to be cleared upon discharge. Any assistance given towards offsetting this bill will be highly appreciated.” said Mutavi.
The journalist joined Voice of Kenya (VoK), now Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), in 1964 and retired in the late 90’s after a six-decade career in the media industry.
He made a comeback on air on both KBC TV and radio to host ‘je huu ni ugwana’ show.
Mbotela’s appeal for help comes just weeks after another radio Citizen presenter and Inspector Mwala actor Munai General appealed to Kenyans to help him offset his medical bills that had accumulated to Ksh2.5 million after he was admitted at Aga Khan hospital following a road accident along Murang’a road in Nairobi County.
“Munai General alias Abdi was involved in a road accident; his medical bills have exceeded his medical cover. We’re appealing to raise Ksh2.5 million to offset the excess on the medical cover,” reads poster.
