Only 3,820 sign for Obama on Eurobond
An online petition to US President Barack Obama on the Sh250 billion Eurobond proceeds appears to have lost steam.
Nine days after the process began with zeal, only 3,820 people have signed the petition, against the required 100,000.
According to details on the White House website, the signatures must be obtained by February 23 for the petition to get the attention of the Obama administration.
This means the proponents, among them Cord activists, must get 96,180 signatures in 21 days.
Kenyans say Obama should order US Attorney General Loretta Lynch to unlock the mystery surrounding the money.
“We petition the Obama administration to have US AG Loretta Lynch help Kenyans recover their looted Eurobond proceeds,” reads the petition.
The petitioners alleged $999 million was not transferred to Kenya from top US banks that handled the Eurobond proceeds, contrary to information provided by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
