Newly appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed heartfelt gratitude to President William Ruto for assigning him to the high-profile docket.
This came just hours after President Ruto made key changes to his Cabinet, reassigning Murkomen, the immediate former Sports CS, to the Interior ministry, a position left vacant after Prof. Kithure Kindiki was appointed Deputy President.
In a subsequent statement on X, Murkomen thanked President Ruto, underscoring that he is eager to support the Head of State deliver on his national security and administration agenda.
“I’m grateful and honored to have been reassigned by His Excellency the President, as the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation in this capacity,” he wrote.
“I look forward to supporting the President in delivering on his national security and administration agenda. In keeping with my oath of office, I undertake to serve with honour and dignity and to perform the functions of my office to the best of my ability.”
In the Thursday reshuffle, announced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Salim Mvurya was also moved from the Investments, Trade and Industry ministry to head the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ministry, filling the vacancy left by Murkomen’s departure
In a further adjustment, former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was nominated to take over the Trade ministry, previously held by Mvurya.
President Ruto likewise appointed former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
Immediate former ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, who was replaced by ex-Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo, was reassigned to the position of High Commissioner to Ghana.
Her counterpart in the Agriculture ministry Dr. Andrew Karanja, replaced by Mutahi Kagwe in the docket, was also appointed as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil, while Amb. Gertrude N. Angote was posted to the High Commission in Zimbabwe.
President Ruto further appointed former Laikipia Governor and Raila Odinga’s campaign Chairman in the 2022 presidential election, Ndiritu Muriithi, as the Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board.
Muriithi took over from Anthony Mwaura, who was subsequently moved to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority in the same capacity.
The Head of State further named former Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) boss Kembi Gitura as the new Board Chair of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, & Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
This follows the recent resignation of KUTRRH Board Chair Prof. Olive Mugenda after protracted strikes by the facility’s employees.
