Moi Referral Hospital holding 34,000 IDs, log books and title deeds over unpaid bills
The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital is holding more than 34,000 IDs, log books and title deeds for patients who failed bills at the hospital.
CEO of the Dr hospital Wilson Aruasa on Sunday said the hospital is owed about Sh200 million in pending bills while many others had been written off to help patients who cannot pay for medication.
Dr Aruasa said some of the withheld documents had been at the hospital for many years and the hospital had now decided to write off half of the pending bills so that owners of the IDs and title deeds can pay half and collect them.
“Many Kenyans have been unable to pay bills of several millions yet NHIF Is able to cater for that and this puts hospitals in very tricky situations at times,” Aruasa said.
“We urge them to register so that the bills we as hospitals can reduce the amounts waived to provide better healthcare to the people,” he added.
