Missing 15-Year-Old Kenyan-Born Girl Found Dead in a River in Germany
A 15-year-old Kenyan-born girl who went missing in Potsdam, Germany last week was on Tuesday found dead.
The body of the teen identified only as Britney was found floating on water by a man who had gone fishing along River Havel on Tuesday afternoon.
The body was discovered near the spot where her bag and personal belongings were found a day after she disappeared from her parent’s home in Drewitz, Brandenburg on October 15th. Divers had searched the same area for two days but did not find her body.
Police who were called to the scene confirmed that the body was that of Britney as she had the same clothes she was wearing at the time of her disappearance.
“The girl still wore the clothes she was reported missing in, blue jeans and a white T-shirt, and she still had her cell phone with her. Her monthly train ticket was still in her pocket,” Reinhold Hüpkes, the coordinator of the first responders told reporters.
Britney had reportedly left their home after a quarrel with her parents and claimed she was going to visit some friends.
Reacting to Britney’s death, Potsdam’s Mayor Mike Schubert said: “All of us in Potsdam are dismayed by the death of the young student. It is awful and sad when a young girl in our midst dies unexpectedly. It is unfortunate that our hope of finding her life has not been fulfilled. We pass our condolences to and mourn with her mom, her family and her friends.”
Britney moved to Germany from Kenya with her mother and younger brother about two and a half years ago.
A trauma counselor was sent to Britney’s mother to inform her of the news about her passing.
