On Friday January 12, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, directed all schools in the country to have their school buses painted yellow by end of March, 2018. The drive was taken as a measure to help secure the safety of students on the road, with school buses also required to operate within the hours of 6 am and 6 pm.
Studies conducted in the United States, have shown that humans notice the colour yellow faster than any other eye catching colour. Yellow is also particularly visible in the early morning and evening light similar to the vests highway workers wear in most countries.
Th directive would also make school buses easily identifiable and safeguard the children by making other drivers aware and simultaneously avoid the buses from being driven recklessly.
