Kenyans to Receive Ksh2 Million Reward For Reporting Tax Crimes
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to reward whistle blowers of tax crimes Ksh2 million.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, November 6, during the 2020 National Taxpayer’s Day launched iWhistle web-based system that will see Kenyans report tax related crimes anonymously.
KRA General Commissioner James Mburu said that if the information is found to be credible, the person who reported the crime stand a chance to take home Kshs2 million per case.
“Credible information tips received on the iWhistle and leading to collection of revenue on tax fraud or tax evasion schemes will receive cash rewards of up to Kes 2 million per case as stipulated by law (KRA Act cap 469-chapter 5A),” said James Mburu.
KRA says Kenyans will be obliged to report crimes such as bribery, concealment, conflict of interest, evasion, fraud, abuse of office, diversion of goods, failure by a taxpayer to submit tax returns by the due date and manufacturing of counterfeit goods.
The portal allows Kenyans to set up an account which generates anonymous ID and password in order to report the crime after which they will receive updates from the authority.
President Uhuru a recorded video address commended all compliant taxpayers for their high sense of civic duty.
The President also applauded the taxman for maintaining its excellent work of revenue despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic challenges.
“I am pleased to note some of the measures the Kenya Revenue Authority has taken to ensure its relationship with the taxpayer is not adversarial or fraught with antagonism, for it is KRA’s solemn duty to facilitate economic activity, trade and our shared prosperity,” the President said.
