Kenyan Lawmakers Deal Major Blow to Anne Waiguru
Kenyan lawmakers on Wednesday dealt a major blow to Anne Waiguru, the Kirinyaga Jubilee aspirant for Governor and former Devolution Cabinet Secretary.
The National Assembly adopted a report by the Parliamentary Account Committee (PAC) recommending that Waiguru undergoes a lifestyle audit, investigation and be barred from holding public office. The move is in response to the alleged disappearance of Sh1.2 billion from the National Youth Service (NYS) account when Waiguru served in the Devolution ministry that is in charge of NYS.

In its report, the PAC recommended that Waiguru “be barred from holding public office, if found guilty after due process, in light of her overall leadership failures at the ministry.”
The lawmakers also say Waiguru is in violation of Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution on integrity and ethics and thus not fit to hold public office.
If the parliamentarians have their way, Waiguru will be barred from running for Kirinyaga governor. She is the Jubilee candidate in the race and faces incumbent governor Josepah Ndathi (an independent candidate whom she beat in the Jubilee priamries) and Martha Karua of Narc-Kenya in the August 8th general elections.
