Kenyan Diaspora Gathers in West London for Murima UK Festival

The Murima UK Festival brought together members of the Kenyan diaspora in Hounslow, West London, on Saturday, 9 May, for a celebration of culture and community engagement.
The event also provided a forum for discussions on national issues and the role of Kenyans abroad in the country’s development. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua did not attend the festival in person but was represented by a delegation led by Kaba Methu and Kanini Kega.
The delegation delivered his message and stressed the importance of maintaining strong links between Kenyans living overseas and developments in Kenya. The programme combined cultural performances with community discussions.
Attendees took part in conversations on investment opportunities, national affairs and the contribution of the diaspora to Kenya’s economic and social progress. Organisers said the festival aimed to strengthen cultural ties while encouraging engagement between citizens abroad and political leaders in Kenya.
The United Kingdom is home to one of the largest Kenyan communities in Europe, and events such as the Murima UK Festival have become important meeting points for professionals, students, entrepreneurs and community groups. Participants said the gathering provided an opportunity to reconnect with their heritage and discuss ways to support Kenya’s future development.
