Body of Missing Kenyan Man Zacchaeus Tallam Found in Oregon After Two-week Search

Zacchaeus Tallam, a 46-year-old Kenyan man living in Oregon, was found dead on 9 May after disappearing nearly two weeks earlier.

Tallam, known to friends as Tom, was last seen on 29 April in Bethany, a suburb of Portland, and authorities in Washington County are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. Police have confirmed that forensic examinations and inquiries are ongoing.

Officials have not released the cause of death and said further details will be provided after preliminary findings are completed and relatives have been formally notified. Tallam’s disappearance prompted concern across the Kenyan community in the United States, with friends, local associations and volunteers organising prayer vigils and online appeals to help locate him.

News of the discovery of his body has brought an end to a search that united members of the diaspora in Oregon and beyond. Community leaders described Tallam as a respected and supportive member of the Kenyan community.

Friends and relatives in Portland have organised a vigil at 4498 NW Oakpoint Way, where mourners are expected to gather for prayers and remembrance. Organisers Amos Togoch and Pastor Wekesa urged members of the community to support Tallam’s family during the mourning period.

During the search effort, volunteers worked together to share information and assist Tallam’s relatives as authorities continued their investigation. Funeral arrangements and memorial plans are expected to be announced after official procedures are completed.
