How One Kenyan Scholar is Helping Students Find Their Way to Germany

Kenyan political scientist Cyrus Robiro has launched Migratunity, an initiative that helps Kenyan students apply to universities in Germany and settle in the country after arrival.
Robiro has nearly 20 years of experience working in Germany’s public sector, with a focus on immigration and integration policy. Through Migratunity, he offers guidance on university applications, visa processes, accommodation, and relocation support for students planning to study in Germany.
His own academic journey began after secondary school in Kenya, when he moved to Germany with support from his family and knowledge of the German language. He first settled in Frankfurt before continuing his postgraduate studies in Marburg. His later work in public service gave him direct experience with the administrative systems international students must navigate.
Robiro says many African students face challenges beyond academic requirements, including visa procedures and adapting to a new environment. His initiative aims to provide practical support and mentorship based on his professional and personal experience in Germany.
Germany has become an increasingly popular destination for Kenyan students because of its affordable education system and strong employment opportunities after graduation. Many public universities charge low tuition fees, while some programmes are offered without tuition costs. The country is also recognised for its high academic standards and established research institutions.
According to Robiro, many young Kenyans now view Germany as both an education destination and a place to build long-term careers. Prospective students can also access guidance through official platforms such as the DAAD Study Portal and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Since launching in April 2025, Migratunity has supported several Kenyan students in securing admission to German universities, with additional applications currently in progress.
