Government Launches Kazi Majuu Drive in Mombasa With 4,000 Gulf Jobs

The Kenyan government has launched a new Kazi Majuu recruitment drive in Mombasa, offering more than 4,000 jobs in Gulf countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

The three-day exercise began on 6 May at the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) campus in Mombasa and has attracted large numbers of job seekers from the Coast region and other parts of the country. The recruitment targets positions in healthcare, hospitality, domestic work, transport, construction, and technical trades.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said licensed recruitment agencies, employers, and government institutions were participating in the exercise to ensure the process remains transparent. He urged applicants to use official recruitment channels and warned against unregistered agents who exploit job seekers.

President William Ruto introduced the Kazi Majuu programme in 2023 to improve access to overseas employment and reduce fraud in labour recruitment. The programme also allows candidates to confirm opportunities through the Kazi Majuu app.

Government figures show that by 2025 more than 540,000 Kenyans had secured jobs abroad through the initiative. Diaspora remittances linked to overseas employment reached KSh 646 million, according to the government. Officials say the programme is intended to support household incomes and contribute to economic growth.

The Mombasa recruitment exercise will continue until 8 May. State agencies, including the National Employment Authority and NITA, are providing verification and documentation services at the venue to help applicants complete the process legally and efficiently.

The government is also promoting employment opportunities through diplomatic missions abroad. The Kenyan embassy in Italy recently announced vacancies for drivers, with applicants required to speak both English and Italian to assist embassy officials with transport and logistics duties.
