DV-2021: Registration Period for the 2021 DiversityVisa Program (Green Card Lottery) Begins Tomorrow,Oct 2nd
The registration period for fiscal year 2021 Diversity Visa program (DV-2021), popularly known as the Green Card Lottery, commence tomorrow – Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019.
The registration period will start on October 2nd at 12pm EDT and end on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at 12pm EST.
55,000 permanent resident visas (green cards) will be available on a lottery basis to nationals of countries around the world that have had low immigration rates to the United States over the last five years.
For DV-2021 the following countries are ineligible to apply because more than 50,000 of their nationals immigrated to the US in the last five years: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
Registering for the lottery is completely free or charge, the US State Department, the department that runs the Diversity Visa program, reminds participants. Also, entries are only available online, and only at this website: dvlottery.state.gov.
New for DV-2021, those who wish to participate in the lottery must have a valid passport.
Those selected will be eligible to immigrate to the United States as green card holders in 2021.
