FULL LIST: Azimio wins majority of seats in Monday election
The Azimio La Umoja candidates have won most of the seats in Monday’s election in eight electoral areas across the country.
The polls being held on Monday were Mombasa and Kakamega governor elections as well as MP races in Kacheliba (West Pokot County), Pokot South (West Pokot County), Rongai (Nakuru County), and Kitui Rural (Kitui County).
Also going to the polls were voters in Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency, Meru County), and Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency, Nairobi County) to elect their members of the county assembly.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) won the Mombasa Governor election.
Provisional results showed that Mr Nassir beat his main competitor Hassan Omar of United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Provisional results from tallying of the six constituencies showed Mr Nasssir won with 119,083 votes against Mr Omar’s 98,108.
In Kakamega, ODM party candidate Fernandes Barasa was set to win after beating Cleophas Malala of Amani National Congress (ANC) party in the Kakamega gubernatorial race, according to provisional results from 10 of the 12 constituencies.
By 8am on Tuesday, provisional results put Barasa in the lead with 160,471 votes against Malala’s 132,427 votes.
Wiper Party’s Mwalika Mboni won the Kitui Rural MP race. The incumbent won re-election with 19, 745 votes against UDA party’s Charles Mutisya Nyamai who garnered 10, 178 votes.
Mr Nyamai is a two-term former area MP.
The provisional results for the Pokot South Constituency put the incumbent David Pkosing of Kenya Union Party (KUP), allied to Azimio, ahead with 28,250.
Mr Pkosing was followed by Simon Kalekem of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) with 15,298 votes and James Tekoo an Independent candidate who hass 2,677 votes.
Titus Lotee of Kenya Union Party (KUP) also trounced incumbent Mark Lomunokol (UDA) to clinch Kacheliba constituency MP seat.
Mr Lotee was declared winner by Kacheliba returning officer Wilson Kipchumba after garnering 20, 073 votes against the outgoing MP Mr Lomunokol who polled 17, 903 votes.
Mr John Lodinyo of KANU trailed with 1,346 votes.
In Rongai, Raymond Kipruto Moi lost the Rongai parliamentary seat to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Paul “Mamba” Chebor.
In a constituency with 84,625 registered voters, Mr Chebor garnered 27,021 votes while Raymond got 14,725. Luka Kigen of Chama Cha Mashinani garnered 593 votes.
Independent candidate Francis Kiragu Kimondo has won the Kwa Njenga MCA seat race in Embakasi South in Nairobi, beating his closest competitor Fransica Kibagendi Kwamboka of UDA.
Mr Kimondo won the poll marred by low voter turnout with 2,098 votes while Ms Kwamboka garnered 1,344.
In Meru, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has clinched the Nyaki West Ward seat after its candidate Fredrick Mubichi garnered 2,026 votes.
Mr Lewis Kithinji of DEP, which is popularly known as Bus, followed closely with 1976 votes, while Hillary Mugambi (Independent) had 1968. Mr Joseph Mworia (Independent) garnered 1,944 votes.
