Joyce Wairimu, a 62-Year-Old Former Convict Handed 35-Year Prison Term for Robbery with Violence
A 62-year-old Kenyan woman was on Tuesday handed a 35-year prison sentence after she was convicted of robbery with violence.
Joyce Wairimu Kariuki, a former convict, was accused of involvement in multiple car thefts in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nakuru between 2018 and 2019. She was arrested and charged at Loitoktok Law Courts in April 2019.
Records show Ms. Wairimu previously served a 15-year prison term at Shimo La Tewa Prison but did not change her ways after her release.
She had been found guilty of various offenses, including theft, forgery, attempted theft, among other crimes.
“Following numerous reports of stolen motor vehicles especially lorries in Nakuru, Nairobi, and Mombasa between 2018 and 2019, @DCI_Kenya narrowed down on the suspect around whom the thefts revolved despite having been released from the said prison after completing a 15-year jail term,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.
