Kenyans Injured in an Auto Accident in Massachusetts
Four people, including two children, were injured in Littleton after a tractor-trailer swerved into another lane and struck an SUV Thursday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Police responded to a report of a crash on I-495 south near exit 31 just before 1:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, troopers found that a tractor-trailer had traveled into the left lane, hitting the rear passenger side of an SUV, police said. The collision caused the SUV to roll over and land on the median, according to police.
A 45-year-old Billerica woman riding in the front seat was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The two passengers in the back seat, an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, were seriously injured and transported to UMass Memorial Hospital, according to police. The vehicle’s driver, a 53-year-old from Billerica, was also taken to UMass Memorial with minor injuries, police said.
The truck’s driver, a 38-year-old man from Brook, Connecticut, was not injured.
The crash closed I-495 in both directions for roughly 30 minutes, creating heavy delays. Other partial lane closures remained later into the afternoon.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The driver and front seat passenger were later identified as Mbuthi and Liza respectively, both originally from Kenya. Liz is in critical condition at Mass General Hospital, according to reports.
