Tecra Muigai Death: Omar Lali Set Free as Murder Charges Against Him are Withdrawn
DPP Noordin Haji has dropped murder charges against Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai.
Instead, Haji has requested for an open inquest into the death of Tecra, who until her passing served as the director of innovation and strategy at Keroche. Consequently, Omar has been set free unconditionally
Lali, 51, was on Monday charged with murder before a Lamu court with the prosecution indicating that they have sufficient evidence to prove that Omar killed Tecra.
The prosecution planned to use toxicological evidence, detailed post mortem reports, phone records, and other documentary exhibits and witnesses’ statements to nail him.
Omar was arraigned before Garsen Law Courts on Tuesday but was not allowed to enter a plea until he was subjected to a mental assessment.
Tecra, who was the daughter of Keroche Breweries founders Joseph Karanja and his wife Tabitha Karanja, passed away while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital on May 2nd, a few days after she allegedly fell down the stairs at a holiday home in Lamu, where she was living with Omar.
An autopsy showed Tecra succumbed to injuries she suffered on the left side of her head. Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor in a report said the injuries were consistent with a fall down the stairs.
