Swearing-in Raila a Waste of Time, NASA MP Says
A National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of Parliament has asked the coalition to abandon the planned swearing in of its leader Raila Odinga, saying it is a waste of time.
On Sunday, Odinga said that nothing will stop him from taking Oath of Office as president, this coming a week after his inauguration that had been set for December 12th was called off under unclear circumstances.
“No one will stop me from lifting the bible to take the oath,” said Raila at Sun n Sand beach resort in Kilifi county on Sunday, where he presided over the inaugural people’s assembly meeting for the coast region.
However, Lugari MP Ayub Savula (ANC) has rubbished the plan, saying that its a waste of time and serves no purpose.
“Swearing-in Mr Odinga is a waste of time,” Savula said at Parliament Buildings on Monday.
“What will happen after that? He doesn’t have the National Intelligence Service, the police or the Treasury. How will he, then, operate?”
Even as preparations of Mr Odinga inauguration continue, Attorney General Githu Muigai once again warned the move will attract charges of high treason, punishable by death.
“Government institutions will do what they are mandated to do if and when the time is right,” Prof Muigai told journalists during the launch of the 2017-2022 Legal Aid National Action Plan in Nairobi.
