President Uhuru’s Escort Officer Succumbs to Covid-19
Presidential Uhuru Kenyatta’s Escort Unit officer, Edward Saruni Legei, is dead.
According to reports, Legei died of Covid-19 related complications at a Nairobi hospital on Tuesday, November 17.
Citizen Digital, Legei reported that Legei drove himself to hospital on Friday, November 13 after developing chest pains while at his home in Kiserian, Kajiado County.
The officer turned positive for Covid-19 after the doctors tested him for the virus.
“He developed chest complications on Friday and he drove himself to the hospital all the way from Kiserian. Upon admission he tested positive. Yesterday (Monday), we got the report he is no more,” a source told Citizen Digital.
Legei, a four-time winner of the Kenya Open Bisley Championships was attached to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security detail.
Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru is among the leaders who have mourned with his family describing Legei as a great personal friend.
In her message of condolence in her Facebook page, the legislator revealed that she had a lengthy discussion with Legei on matters to security and development of Laikipia North two weeks ago.
“The loss of a friend is like that of a limb; time may heal the anguish of the wound, but the loss cannot be repaired.”

“Two weeks ago, we met with Edward and had a lengthy discussion on matters to security in Laikipia North as well as development, what is done and what is remaining to be accomplished. We were to meet again to deliberate on the above issues but God did His wish before our plans were fulfilled.”

Legei, who is also former Kenya Regimen fullbore captain, joined the Presidential Escort Unit after serving as Kitui Sub County Deputy Commander under the Kenya National Police Service (KNPS).
