New Taxis that Only Carry Women at Night
Taxi users in Kenya especially women are set to enjoy a rare taxi service by the newly launched taxi-hailing app, Little Cabs.
The service dubbed “Lady Bug” will be an exclusive cab service for and driven by women.
The cabs will offer normal services during the day to all customers but after 6pm only women will be allowed to hire the vehicles.
Little Cabs was launched on Wednesday in a joint operation between Safaricom and Craft Silicon and will ensure women are safe and not harassed during the night by regular drivers.
Craft Silicon CEO Kamal Budhabhatti, said during the launch that they had already signed up to 40 female drivers.
“A first in Kenya and Africa, Little Cab has introduced a lady-friendly category, ‘Lady Bug’, with professional lady drivers to ensure women’s safety on the road.”
“Lady Bug’ service will be open for requests to all customers from 6am until 6pm, after which only ladies will be allowed to make a request,” Mr Budhabhatti said.
The service will be the first in Kenya and Africa though it has been offered in other parts of the world by renowned taxi operators such as DriveHer and SafeHer to ensure women are not harassed by regular drivers.
Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore announced that they will provide free Wi-Fi services in every Little Cab vehicle and also allow its clients to redeem Bonga points in exchange for rides.
