Miss Universe 2016 – 2017 Top 13 Winners
It’s the 2016 – 2017 Miss Universe Pageant and 86 contestants are hoping to win the crown. Steve Harvey and Ashley Graham are the hosts of the event with Flo Rida and Boyz II Men as the musical guests. But, let’s get down to what you’re really interested in … the winners. Check out the top 13 contestants as they are announced live. Twelve of these finalists were selected by the Miss Universe Organization and one was chosen by at-home voters.
Miss Kenya Mary Esther Were
Miss Kenya’s backstory is that she lost her parents at an early age and had a near-death experience at age 5. She is also the first person from her country to be a Miss Universe contestant. She says she has a strong and supportive family of siblings. She also says that her step-mother has been her mentor.
Miss Indonesia Kezia Warouw
Also moving forward in the competition is Miss Indonesia and she is six feet tall. As a very tall woman, she says she feels she is blessed and that her height is a gift from God.
Miss USA Deshauna Barber
Deshauna Barber, Miss USA, was the third selected to move forward tonight. She is in the United States Army Reserves and pageants are a very different world. She says she gets the opportunity to show diversity all over the world. Barber says she feels humble and honored to represent women who serve our country.
Miss Mexico Kristal Silva
One step closer to the crown, as host Steve Harvey says, is Miss Mexico. Apparently, Miss Mexico once tripped and fell during a pageant about three years ago. She says that she was very nervous and now she tries to take advantage of that situation by acting like nothing happened.
Miss Peru Valeria Piazza
Upon hearing that she was moving through in the competition, she said that her heart stopped. She said that she was previously in a bad car accident and that doctors told her she probably wouldn’t make it to the Miss Universe Pageant. She said she started going to therapy twice a day and now this is the best moment of her life.
Miss Panama Keity Drennan
Drennan and her sisters were raised by a single mom. She says that her mother told her hard work and effort helps you attain your dreams. She also learned that confidence helps you accomplish success in life.
Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar
When Miss Colombia came out on stage, host Steve Harvey began to worry because of the mistake he made last year with Colombia not winning the pageant. Harvey then asked her how people in her country feel about him. He also joked that he wants her to marry his son. Tovar then joked that most people in her country hate him.
Miss Philippines Maxine Medina
Miss Philippines definitely has a home-court advantage with all the cheering audience members in the crowd. Her aunt is a previous winner of the competition and her advice to Medina was to just be herself. This year’s pageant is in the Philippines.
