Ministry of Defence Named Kenya’s Best-Performing Government Institution

Kenya’s Ministry of Defence has been ranked as the country’s best-performing government institution in the 2024/2025 evaluation cycle, receiving the award from President William Ruto at the inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference in Nairobi.

The recognition marks a notable shift in the assessment of public institutions, with greater emphasis placed on measurable results and service delivery. The Ministry emerged as the leading performer among government agencies evaluated during the cycle.

The outcome differs from the 2022/2023 performance contracting cycle, when strong results were recorded across a broader range of institutions. This year’s rankings identified the Ministry of Defence as the clear leader, reflecting its focus on structured planning, operational discipline and the achievement of set targets.

Speaking after receiving the award, Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya said the recognition reflected the efforts of both military personnel and civilian staff within the Ministry. She said the achievement demonstrated a results-oriented approach that is strengthening public service delivery and supporting national development goals.

The conference, organised by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, brought together senior government officials to review productivity and performance across public institutions. It forms part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s wider efforts to improve efficiency, accountability and service delivery in government.
