MAN RESCUES UGALI AS COUNTY GOVT DEMOLISHES ILLEGAL STRUCTURES

When Nairobi County enforcement officers stormed Kilimani area to bring down illegal structures, for one man, there was only one precious thing: ugali.

Not just any piece of ugali but a gigantic piece.

While other onlookers were busy rescuing or looting other valuables, for this unidentified, all he needed was lunch.

He was captured by our photographer Evans Habil carting away the piece, oblivious of onlookers or hungry paparazzi.

ILLEGAL STRUCTURES

This happened on Thursday where a total of 120 traders operating illegal structures were arrested while more than 100 illegal structures were demolished in the sting operation by the enforcement unit.

The director of the enforcement unit Peter Mbaya said that the crackdown is part of the ongoing operation by the county government to rid the capital city of mushrooming illegal structures across all the 17 sub-counties.

“We were dealing with the small structures. We wanted to arrest as many as possible and take them to court to act as a deterrent to others. We were enforcing all the illegalities. There were some who were dumping wastes, some cooking by the roadside while others were hawking,” said Mr Mbaya.
