Late Dr. Stephen Mogusu’s Body Still in Mogue Over Ksh1M Bill
The body of the late Dr. Stephen Mogusu is still lying in the Kenyatta University Referal Hospital morgue over unpaid bills, Kenya Medical Association has confirmed.
According to a report by Reuters, the late doctor’s body has been detained after his family and another doctor have been unable to pay the hospital bill amounting to Ksh1 million.
Until his death, Mogusu, who was employed on a temporary contract at Machakos County under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pilot programme, had not been paid for the last five months.
This comes just two days after Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi stated that the government had contacted Mogusu family with the aim of providing aid.
“It’s actually heartbreaking. We have seen the concerns in the media from the union members, we have talked to friends of the doctor who passed on.”
“We are well aware of the heartbreak that they are going through and we are in discussions to ensure that the family is able to get the aid they require but additionally that we are able to ensure that this isn’t a situation that recurs among other healthcare workers,” Mwangangi stated.
According to the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Mogusu is the 14th doctor to die of the virus since the first case was reported in March.
