Kenyan Man Seeks Divorce After LearningHis Wife is a Lesbian
A 30-year-old Kenyan man is seeking a divorce from his wife of five years after it emerged that she is a lesbian.
The man identified as FJO told a Nakuru court that they did not consummate their marriage until eight months after the woman told him she was not interested in getting intimate with him.
FJO met the woman, named in court papers as PNM, on Facebook in 2015 and their relationship blossomed before they tied the knot on April 16th, 2016 at a Nakuru church.
Soon after their glamorous wedding, the man realized his wife did not want to get intimate with him, marking the genesis of their problems.
“We consummated our marriage eight months after the wedding. There was no intimacy between us,” FJO told the court.
The wife got pregnant and the couple welcomed their first child on June 1st, 2018 but this did not end their problems as their differences got deeper.
The situation was exacerbated by the woman’s refusal to support the man’s career and communication between the two broke down.
“We were emotionally disconnected,” the applicant says in court papers.
They sought the services of professionals in a bid to resolve what he termed as irreconcilable differences, but to no avail.
“After some time, the respondent confided in my sister and my sister-in-law she was only attracted to females. It was at that time that she disclosed to them she had been practicing lesbianism,” the applicant adds.
On Monday, FJO told Nakuru Principal Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi that attempts to seek help from close family members and friends were futile.
He accuses the woman of denying him his conjugal rights, adding that PNM’s family treated him with contempt.
He told the court that they agreed to separate but reunited for the sake of the baby but things got even worse as they would always argue. They later separated permanently before he moved to Finland in October 2018.
FJO said his wife did not explain to him why she denied him conjugal rights and only learned it from his sister and sister-in-law.
“All she would tell me was she lacked interest in intimacy with men. It was after I got the information that she told me she had no interest in men and that she practiced lesbianism. She confirmed she was a lesbian as our families tried to help us resolve differences,” said FJO.
FJO told the court that he felt betrayed and that the whole situation was too embarrassing for him. He disclosed that they got intimate just about five times during their marriage, with the last time being in 2017.
“I lost interest in the marriage. I felt embarrassed. I was a worship leader in our church but I stopped going to church as a result of embarrassment I suffered,” said FJO.
“We separated three years ago. All I want is to have the marriage dissolved,” the man told the court.
It emerged that the woman never filed a response to the suit. The court is expected to deliver a judgment on the matter on September 3rd.
