Kenya Airways Names Allan Kilavuka as Interim CEO
Kenya Airways has named Allan Kilavuka as the new acting CEO effective 1st January 2020. The announcement comes after KQ CEO Sebastian Mikosz offered to resign effective December 2019. Allan will also continue with his role as the CEO of Jambojet, a subsidiary of the national carrier.
“The Board of Kenya Airways Plc wishes to announce that effective January 1. 2020, Allan Kilavuka has been appointed to take the role of CEO of Kenya Airways until a substantive CEO is recruited and appointed. Allan will also continue his role as CEO of Jambojet during the interim period of recruitment,” reads a KQ press release.
Furthermore, the carrier states that it is in an active recruitment process in search of a CEO, promising to inform stakeholders upon completion.

“The Board wishes to emphasise that the recruitment process for a substantive CEO with the necessary experience was initiated upon Mikosz’s decision to leave the airline. The process is still actively ongoing and the board will inform all stakeholders once it identifies a suitable candidate,” the statement continues.
Sebastian Mikosz, the outgoing CEO sent his letter of resignation in May, citing personal reasons behind the decision.
Allan has over 20 years experience spread out across aviation, strategy, business process improvement and financial leadership. He also has an impressive track record, expanding Jambojet both locally and internationally. In his new office, the acting CEO faces challenges such as a loss-making business as well as bleeding revenues from inefficiencies.
