IEBC likely to change fresh election date from October 17
IEBC is likely to change the fresh election date from Tuesday, October 17 to a later date – This is after KIEMs kits provider OT-Morpho said it won’t be ready by the set date – IEBC will deliberate on the same on Monday, September 18 and make the announcement on Wednesday, September 20 – IEBC will also meet President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga jointly to iron out sticky issues The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is deliberating on rescheduling the fresh election from Tuesday, October 17 to a later date. IEBC officials are meeting on Monday, September 8 to deliberate on a report by KIEMs provider OT-Morpho that recommended a change of the date. The embattled French firm has submitted a report to the electoral body saying it will not be able to reconfigure the kits used in the annulled August 8 election by the set date.
OT-Morpho wants the dates pushed to give it time to reconfigure the 45,000 kits. This will include deletion of all names of the aspirants in the past election to remain with those of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. However, the IEBC will not make public the changes, should they happen, until Wednesday, September 20, when they meet Uhuru and Raila to iron out sticky issues that have been raised by both parties. The new dates are likely to be October 24, 26 or 30.
