How Kenyan Filmmaker Ronnie Nyauchi Edited His Way Into Hollywood

Kenyan filmmaker Ronnie Nyauchi has secured a role in Hollywood post-production after moving from Nairobi to the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic and later working on major productions including Netflix’s Bridgerton.
Nyauchi relocated to the United States in 2020 as the pandemic disrupted the film industry and limited travel opportunities. Unable to continue regular film work or return to Kenya, he took a job as a certified nursing assistant. During that period, he was asked to digitise a family’s video archive, an experience that renewed his interest in editing, a skill he had developed while studying communication in Kenya.
He later moved into documentary production work, starting as a production assistant. The role gave him experience on large productions and allowed him to build professional connections within the industry. He eventually transitioned into post-production, where he developed his technical skills and gained access to larger projects.
Nyauchi has since contributed to productions including Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton. As an assistant editor, he works with raw footage, synchronises sound and prepares sequences for the editing process. These responsibilities are central to ensuring episodes are completed to broadcast standard.
His career development has also been supported by mentorship programmes and industry networks. Nyauchi is an associate member of the American Cinema Editors, an organisation that supports professional development and promotes greater diversity within the film industry.
