Hon. Chief Justice Martha Koome, President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, paid a courtesy call at the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Washington, D.C. She was accompanied by Judges of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and judicial officials who are in the United States on official duty. H.E. David Kerich welcomed the delegation and underscored the complex judicial landscape involving multiple actors across both Kenya and the United States. He emphasized the importance of structured engagement, institutional coordination, and adherence to respective legal frameworks in advancing effective judicial cooperation.

Discussions further highlighted the role of the Embassy in supporting Kenya’s international judicial engagements through judicial diplomacy. Notably, the discussions highlighted sustained diplomatic efforts, including lobbying for the election of Hon. Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u, CBS, SCJ, as a Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as advancing the candidacy of Prof. Phoebe Okowa for election as a Member of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The discussions also underscored the necessity of establishing a dedicated judicial desk to fast track legal matters affecting the diaspora community, within the applicable legal frameworks, in recognition of their unique operating environment.
