Kenyan Nursing Graduate Dies Unexpectedly Inside His Washington Apartment
Kinuthia Ndekei, a young Kenyan from Kabete, Kiambu, died unexpectedly in his apartment in Washington State on 5 September.
Kinuthia was the son of Peter Ndekei Kinuthia and Njeri Ndiho Ndekei. He had recently completed a Nursing course at Sumner College in Oregon and was preparing to begin his professional career.
His sudden death has left his family and friends deeply shocked as they mourn a young man whose career was only beginning. Plans are now under way to repatriate Kinuthia’s remains to Kenya for burial. The arrangements are being coordinated under the leadership of Samuel Mwaura Muriithi.
Members of the Kenyan community in Federal Way, Washington, are holding daily meetings from 5.00pm to 7.00pm to organise contributions and provide updates on the repatriation process. A WhatsApp group has also been created to facilitate communication among those supporting the family.
The appeal for financial assistance reflects the significant cost of repatriating remains from the United States to Kenya. Such arrangements can place a considerable financial burden on bereaved families, particularly when a death occurs unexpectedly.
The Kenyan diaspora has responded by coming together to support Kinuthia’s family and help ensure that his remains are returned home for burial. His death has left his relatives and friends mourning a promising young man whose life ended suddenly.
