Google Executive Charles Njenga Joins Absa Kenya Board
Effective 24th June 2020, Absa Kenya Plc (former Barclays) Wednesday announced that Charles Njenga Murito, Government Affairs and Public Policy Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google has joined its board as an Independent Non-executive Member.
Charles Muchene who is the Absa Chairman Board of Directors said Murito is a youthful executive with 20 years experience in the content, digital, and technology sectors and they look forward to tapping into his wealth of experience to further accelerate the achievement of their mission of becoming Kenya’s preferred financial services provider.
“Charles brings to the Board his notable passion for customers, as well as his extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of technology, innovation, and data, all of which are key elements of the bank’s growth strategy,” said Muchene.
Murito has an impressive CV holding an MBA (Entertainment Busines and Finance) from Cass Business School, City University, UK, and a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Management degree from Woodbury University in California.
Before his current position as the government Affairs and Public Policy Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, he served for about 6 years as Google’s Country Director for Kenya.
Murito says that in the last 20 years, he has helped some of the world’s leading tech, media, and entertainment companies to define their strategy, grow, and advance their footprint in emerging markets.
Murito joins the board at a time when the Bank has just completed a separation and rebranding exercise from its former parent company Barclays Bank UK.
