Diaspora Leader Danson Mukile Hails UAE Visa-on-Arrival Deal for Kenyans Abroad

The United Arab Emirates has introduced a visa-on-arrival policy for eligible Kenyan passport holders, allowing those with valid residence permits in selected countries to obtain entry visas upon arrival.
The new policy takes effect immediately and applies to Kenyan citizens who hold valid residence permits in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and selected European Union countries. Diaspora affairs strategist Danson Mukile described the move as a significant step in improving international travel for Kenyans living abroad.
He said the policy would benefit professionals, students and families who have previously faced lengthy visa application processes despite holding residency in advanced economies. According to Mukile, the new arrangement replaces weeks of waiting with easier access to destinations such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Mukile linked the decision to the Kenya–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), signed in January 2025. He said the agreement is beginning to deliver practical benefits beyond trade and investment.
“This breakthrough is no coincidence. It flows directly from the landmark CEPA,” he said, describing the visa policy as part of broader diplomatic engagement under President William Ruto’s administration.
The UAE Embassy in Nairobi said the policy is intended to strengthen tourism, trade and investment between the two countries. Analysts say it also reflects the UAE’s recognition of the growing contribution of the Kenyan diaspora through remittances, entrepreneurship and cross-border investment. They believe easier travel will further strengthen these economic links.
Mukile said the policy would make it easier for Kenyans abroad to travel for business meetings, conferences and family visits. He added that greater mobility could support the transfer of skills, technology and professional networks to Kenya.
“When we move freely, Kenya moves forward faster,” he said.
The visa-on-arrival arrangement does not apply to all Kenyan passport holders. Only those with valid residence permits in the specified countries qualify. Kenyans who do not meet these requirements must continue to apply for visas through the standard process.
