Death announcement of the late Alfred Njuguna Kihara

Alfred Njuguna Kihara
January 2, 1948—August 1, 2026
It is with heavy and grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred Njuguna Kihara
on August 1, 2026, in Virginia, after a long illness borne with courage, stoicism and fortitude of
faith.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
Alfred was son of the late Harrison Kihara Nduuru and the late Peris Wanjeri Kihara of Maji
Mazuri and later, the Ndege Farm in Lanet, Nakuru County. He was born in Nyahururu, Laikipia
County in the mid-1940s. He was the third born of eight children and the second of three
sons born of Kihara including the late Lawrence Nduuru Kihara, and the late Gilbert Gaitho
Kihara. He was the brother of the late Rachael Nyanjiru, Mary Nyambura Kaberere of Maji
Mazuri (Nakuru County), the late Lydia Wambui Waireri, the late Judy Wangeci Kihara, and Joyce
Muthoni Kihara of Bahati, Nakuru County. He was brother-in-law of Milcah Wanjiru Kihara of
Langata, Nairobi and Margret Wangari Gaitho of Lanet, Nakuru.
Alfred was a darling husband of Annie Wambui Kihara formerly of the World Bank Group,
devoted father of Edward (Ted) Kihara, Dr. Catherine (Kate) Kihara Kitonga, Rosa Kihara, Cecilia
(Ciru) Kihara, and Mary (Kobi) Kihara. He was father in-law of Moses Kitonga and grandfather of
Jacob Kitonga, Nimo Waweru, Peter Waweru, and Geoffrey Macharia Waweru. He was an in-law
of Archbishop Arthur Kitonga and Reverend Mrs. Josephine Kitonga of Nairobi. He was brother
in-law of the late Mary Mumbi Njenga, the late Joseph Kamau, Susan Hopkins (U.K)., Simon
Mwangi of (Gatura, Muranga County), Raphael Kariuki of (Kairo, Muranga County), Cecilia
Cooper (Mombasa), and Anthony Njoroge (Mombasa). He was an uncle and a friend of many.
The Kihara family, at large, invites you to join them for a memorial service to celebrate his life
and to honor his memory on Wednesday August 5, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at CITAM, Valley Road,
Nairobi. A second memorial service will be held at the Word of Life Church in Springfield,
Virginia, with interment soon after, near his home in Fairfax, Virginia.
