Australian Parliament Honours Kenyan Diaspora Leader Antony Kamau

Australia’s Senate has formally honoured Antony Kamau, the president of Kenyans in Queensland (KIQ), for his work in supporting the diaspora and promoting multicultural integration.

The recognition was marked by a ceremonial display of the Australian National Flag in the Senate Chamber on February 28, 2024, following a presentation by Australian Senator Paul Scarr.

Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs congratulated Kamau on the commendation, noting that his leadership has helped raise the profile of Kenyans living in Australia.

“His leadership through KIQ has helped raise the visibility of Kenyans living in Australia and strengthen links within the community,” the State Department said in a statement.

The department noted that Kamau has led efforts to build stronger connections among Kenyans residing in Queensland. His work focuses on professional development, civic engagement, mentorship and community support.

Diaspora organisations like KIQ play a key role in bringing together Kenyans living abroad, helping them build professional networks while maintaining active ties with Kenya.

The State Department commended the broader Kenyan community in Queensland for its contribution to building an inclusive diaspora network and wished Kamau continued success in his community work.
