Atty Njoroge Kamau ALS Fundraiser Nets $525,000 (Kshs 52.5 million): U.S. $130,000 Kenya $395,000

Attorney Njoroge Kamau is a Diaspora Kenyan who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease in 2008. ALS also known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or Lou Gehrig’s disease causes the neurons controlling muscles to decrease in size. It is characterized by stiff muscles, muscle twitching, and weakness due to muscles failure.

A father of three children and a holder of Juris Doctorate of Law, Attorney Kamau would open a Law Firm in Worcester, MA around 2005. He the same year would with others start exploring on how to advance Kenya development. The Diaspora University Town project traces its roots to this initiative.

On diagnosis 2008, the lawyer accustomed to fighting legal battles for others, together with his wife, would choose to find ways to battle and fight ALS. With close friends and family, Attorney Kamau has fought the ALS battle for the last 11 years through different treatment methods including the latest promising treatment of stem cell.

In March 2019, Attorney Kamau would get the Pneumonia infection. Coupled with his ALS this would deteriorate his health. He was unable to practice law. As a father of three children and coupled with the needs of his health condition, his yearly budget shot up to $100,000 (about Kshs 10 million).

His family and friends would open talks on the possibility of a fundraiser. At the end of the fundraising the U.S donations were at $130,000 and the Kenya donations at $395,000. A total of $525,000 (about kshs 52.5 million).

Attorney Kamau thanked all who supported him through a message that read, “I take this opportunity to thank all of you and to let you know that I’m very thankful and overwhelmed by your outpouring of support and generosity. It is good deeds like the one you have done that keeps me strong and hopeful for a complete recovery. I know a thank you does not express the full extent of my gratitude to you. I will never forget your support and action at the time I needed it most. May God bless you. With God and all of you; together we will beat ALS. Love you all.”
