The last male northern white rhino in the world is being protected around the clock by armed guards in Kenya.

KENYA – The last known male northern white rhino is the last hope for a subspecies teetering on the verge of extinction.
Sudan might look like any other northern white rhino as he grazes under the hot sun at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in central Kenya. But the 42-year-old rhino is not just any white rhino, he is the last male northern white rhino left in the entire world. Which is why he is closely guarded with armed men day and night.
The fate of the subspecies rests on his ability to conceive with the two female northern white rhinos, Fatu and Najin, at the conservancy.
Sudan is considered elderly in rhino years. Fatu is 15, while Najin is 25.
Though the three northern white rhinos at the conservancy are physiologically healthy, age is a factor, according to George Paul the deputy veterinarian at the conservancy. READ MORE
