Uhuru expected at Harambee House in first public appearance after polls
President Uhuru Kenyatta is Monday morning expected at Harambee House in his first public appearance since winning the election.
His aides say the visit is aimed at cementing the message that the country is intact after his opponent and NASA leader Raila Odinga said he will announce his next move on Tuesday.
President Kenyatta was declared winner of the Tuesday elections after defeating Odinga who is yet to accept the results.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has assured that the country is secure, and urged Kenyans to go about their business after Odinga called for a boycott.
Kenyatta was declared winner in the 2017 presidential election with 8,203,290 votes translating to 54.2 percent of the total votes cast. Raila Odinga who got 6,762,224.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared the President the winner at Friday after the commission completed the tabulation of the votes relayed by Returning Officers in all Constituencies after 15,073, 662 Kenyans cast their ballots on August 8th.
Chebukati also announced that President Kenyatta garnered at least 25 percent of the votes cast in 35 counties out of the 47 counties.
