President Uhuru Kenyatta has revisited the altercation he had with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho when he was recommissioning the Mtongwe Ferry early March.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday, March 20, the head of state denied that he has been temperamental lately and said he was only responding to false allegations made against him.
The president said that he did not want the governor to attend his function because he was not invited.
“Mtu amesema lazima aje function yangu, na mimi nikasema hii haikuhusu, wewe kaa kando mimi nipate nafasi yangu ya kuwaeleza wananchi vile nimewatendea (Someone wants to attend my function forcefully and I said no, this does not involve you, stay aside so I can tell residents what I have done),” Uhuru said.
The president claimed that Joho intended to disrespect him in the function just like he did in a previous one where he told him off over a project he was commissioning.
The governor was held by heavily armed security officers and put under office arrest until the function ended.
“Kama wafikiria lengo lako ni kujigamba ati umeweza kusimama mbele ya rais ati umeweza kumtukana, mimi nikasema hiyo siwezi kubali (But if your plan is to brag that you told off the president, I said I won’t allow that),” Uhuru added.
Joho has been a strong critic of the Jubilee administration and now he claims he is paying for his political stand as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has gone for his bank accounts.
The governor has had more than two altercations with Uhuru while visiting Mombasa county.
