94-Year-Old Retired Kenyan Teacher Gives Away Sh6Million Mansion to be Used as Home for Elderly
A 94-year-old Kenyan retired teacher has wowed many after he gave away his Sh6 million mansion to be used as a home for the elderly.
Nduhiu Njama from Nyeri County said he decided to donate the expensive house after witnessing elderly parents suffer in the villages while their children are in the city.
The nonagenarian said he built the house in 1992 for his late wife and six children and plans to relocate to Nairobi to live with his children once the care home is approved by the county government.
Njama explained that he and his wife had planned to give back to society but she passed away before fulfilling the dream.
“My wife passed away in 2003 before we fulfilled our dream of giving back to society. We always wanted to do something for others but we had not yet settled on any gesture.”
“But since she is now gone, I have no one to share the property with at my retirement home,” Njama told a local daily in an interview.
His children, who describe him as a humble and generous father, said they were not surprised by his gesture.
