William Ruto Urges Kenyans Abroad to Boost Investment Back Home

William Ruto has emphasised the role of Kenyans living abroad in supporting the country’s development during a meeting in Rome with diaspora representatives.

Speaking to Kenyans based in Europe, the President said remittances, investment, and skills from the diaspora remain vital to Kenya’s economic and social progress. He added that citizens abroad contribute directly to national resilience and growth.

Ruto noted that ongoing dialogue with diaspora communities is helping to shape government reforms and improve public services. He said such engagements provide insight into the challenges faced by Kenyans overseas, allowing the government to respond with targeted policies.

He outlined several reforms, including efforts to streamline consular services, strengthen labour migration systems, and expand access to safe and structured employment opportunities abroad. He said these measures are intended to protect citizens while maintaining their connection to Kenya.

The President linked these initiatives to wider reforms in infrastructure, digital services, and job creation, which he said are positioning Kenya to compete more effectively in the global economy. He also encouraged Kenyans abroad to increase their investment in the country, describing their involvement as important to economic growth and improved living standards.

Officials accompanying the President said diaspora engagement will remain central to Kenya’s foreign policy. They confirmed plans to hold similar forums in other cities with large Kenyan populations.

The Rome meeting is part of a broader international outreach aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations, attracting investment, and reinforcing ties with Kenyans living abroad.
