“The Polygamist” Climbs Netflix’s Global Rankings

South African drama series “The Polygamist” has entered Netflix’s global top four non-English-language shows, highlighting the growing international appeal of African storytelling. The series, adapted from Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi’s book of the same name, attracted 2 million views and generated 19.1 million viewing hours in its first week, performing strongly across markets in Africa and the Caribbean. It appeared in Netflix’s Top 10 rankings in 13 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic. The show’s success demonstrates the increasing ability of South African productions to connect with audiences beyond their domestic market through themes that resonate across different cultures. Starring S’dumo Mtshali, Gugu Gumede, Noluthando Shabalala, Wonder Ndlovu, Celeste Ntuli, Kenneth Nkosi, and others, the series adds to the growing global visibility of African film and television. Its strong performance reinforces the expanding international demand for locally produced African content on streaming platforms.
