Ruto, Uhuru to share platform at peace event in Nairobi

• Burundi’s Evariste Ndayishimiye and Uhuru will officiate the opening session which will be held at the Safari Park Hotel.
• Nairobi III comes after the official visit of Uhuru in his capacity as the  Facilitator of the East African Community to Kinshasa and Goma
• President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Monday share a platform to discuss the peace process.

  The duo will be at the official opening of the Third Inter-Congolese Consultations of the Nairobi Peace Process (Nairobi III).

• The event will be held at the Safari Park Hotel. Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye and Uhuru will officiate the opening session.
• Nairobi III comes after the official visit of Uhuru in his capacity as the  Facilitator of the East African Community to Kinshasa and Goma, DRC, for the Mini-Summit on Peace and Security in the Eastern DRC.

  This will be the first time Uhuru and Ruto will be together in public after Ruto’s inauguration as the fifth President in September.

  During his maiden address as head of state, Ruto announced Uhuru had agreed to continue the mission of ensuring there is peace within the region.

• “On peace initiative in our region, in Ethiopia and the Great Lakes region, I have asked my elder brother President Uhuru Kenyatta who has done commended able engagement with those regions and he has graciously agreed to continue chairing those discussions on behalf of the Government of Kenya,” Ruto said.
• The meeting comes just two days after the third batch of Kenyan troops was dispatched to DRC.

  They joined their colleagues who left the country two weeks ago under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) to fight M23 rebels in DRC.

• President Ruto ordered the deployment of soldiers from the KDF to join a regional peacekeeping mission.
