Ruto Inspects 729 Affordable Housing Units as Sh18 Billion Nandi Investment Takes Shape

President William Ruto has inspected housing, education and market projects in Nandi County, where the government plans to invest Sh18 billion in housing units, student accommodation and modern markets.

Speaking in Nandi Hills on Saturday, Ruto said the government was committed to completing projects announced during previous visits. He was accompanied by allied leaders and addressed residents during the tour.

The President commissioned the Kaiboi Economic Stimulus Programme Market, a facility intended to provide traders and small-scale entrepreneurs with improved spaces for their businesses. The market is among several facilities being developed under the government’s plan to improve trading infrastructure and support local enterprises.

Ruto also inspected the Nandi Hills Affordable Housing Project, which comprises 729 housing units. The development is part of the national affordable housing programme, which the government says will expand access to homes while creating jobs through construction.

The President said the planned Sh18 billion investment in Nandi would support the construction of 4,000 housing units, student accommodation with 7,000 beds and 15 modern markets. The projects are expected to create employment and provide business opportunities for local suppliers, contractors and service providers.

The affordable housing programme is a central part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda. The government has maintained that the initiative will generate employment beyond the construction sector by increasing demand for building materials, transport and other services linked to the projects.

Education infrastructure was also a key focus of the tour. At Koitaleel Samoei University College, Ruto inspected ongoing construction and received an update on the institution’s development.

Officials said the administration block was nearing completion, while construction had started on laboratories, lecture theatres and a library. Plans were also progressing for the development of Samoei Senior School.

The university college is expected to expand access to higher education in the region, giving more students an opportunity to study closer to home. The projects form part of the government’s broader investment in public infrastructure, with markets intended to support businesses, housing developments expected to generate jobs and educational facilities aimed at expanding access to learning.

Ruto said his administration would continue implementing its development programme.
