President Ruto: In next 3 years, Kenyans in diaspora should send home Sh1t
President William Ruto has said he is optimistic that in the next three years, Kenyans in diaspora will be sending a total of Sh1 trillion yearly.
In 2021, Kenyans in the diaspora sent a record high Sh420 billion to the country.
President Ruto now hopes that this figure could increase to Sh1 trillion by 2025, at the least.
The Head of State made the remarks at the Technical University of Kenya in Nairobi during the ground-breaking ceremony for new tuition blocks at the institution.
The president urged tertiary education students to leverage on technology to improve their skills, make themselves marketable and attract global employers.
Dr Ruto said he was hopeful that the new technology facilities introduced in universities will help improve Kenya’s industrialisation, agro-processing, human capital and value addition.
“Our human resource is the biggest asset we have. The mechanism to sharpen that resource is through education and training. I expect that in the next three to five years, we should be receiving Sh1 trillion from Kenyans in the diaspora. The remittances will be coming from our exported human capital,” he said.
