Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has introduced yellow boxes on the City’s roads after the popular Kidero drums, in his efforts to reduce traffic snarl up in the County.
According to a statement by the Nairobi County Boss: “The yellow box junctions will be placed at intersections that are notoriously congested such as the intersection along Kenyatta Avenue, Mama Ngina Street, Wabera Street, City hall way and most areas where there are X junctions (Crossed junctions)”.
Motorists are expected not to enter the yellow boxes when the traffic lights turn green, unless the exit is clear.
The Nairobi Governor warned that those caught in the yellow boxes contrary to the regulation,a will be arrested and prosecuted with the charge of obstruction.
“We are asking motorists to fully co-operate as we would like to ensure the city and its environs are decongested and ensure free flow of traffic,” Kidero stated.
The yellow boxes come months after Kidero introduced drums on the Capital’s major roads to eliminate roundabouts, a move that was greatly ridiculed by Kenyans.
The drums innovation, which Kidero said had been scientifically proven to reduce traffic congestion, was a major flop as they increased traffic conjestion on the city highways.
